Cloud-Hosted 3CX
In a cloud deployment, your 3CX server runs on a virtual machine at a data center — either a global provider such as AWS or Alibaba Cloud, or a local Cambodian cloud or VPS provider managed by KHCOLO. You access and administer everything through a browser. There is no physical server to rack, cable, or power in your office.Advantages
- Simplified Management — No on-site hardware to maintain, replace, or troubleshoot. OS updates, disk health, and network connectivity are handled at the data center level.
- Automatic 3CX Updates — 3CX software updates apply on your schedule without requiring an IT engineer to be physically present at the server.
- Geographic Redundancy — Your PBX continues operating even if your office loses power or internet connectivity. Remote staff and mobile app users remain reachable.
- Fast Deployment — A new cloud VM can be provisioned and have 3CX running within hours, not days.
- Scalable Resources — Need more RAM or CPU as your team grows? Resize the VM through your cloud provider’s control panel without replacing hardware.
- Lower Upfront Cost — No capital expenditure on server hardware. Monthly VPS costs are predictable and often lower than the TCO of on-premise hardware over a 3–5 year lifecycle.
Considerations
- Internet Dependency — Your office phones rely on a stable internet connection. If your ISP experiences an outage, on-site desk phones may lose connectivity (though mobile app users on cellular data remain unaffected).
- Ongoing VPS Cost — Monthly hosting fees are a recurring operational expense, whereas on-premise hardware is a one-time capital cost (though on-premise has its own ongoing costs for power, cooling, and maintenance).
- Data Location — Call recordings and logs are stored at the cloud provider’s data center. For most businesses this is acceptable; for certain regulated industries, review your compliance requirements.
Ideal For
- Businesses without dedicated on-site IT staff
- Companies with remote workers or multiple office locations
- Organizations that want fast deployment and minimal hardware overhead
- Startups and growing businesses that need a system that scales with them
- Businesses already using cloud services (Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Bitrix24 cloud)

Decision Guide
Use the following questions to help you decide: Choose Cloud (Hosted) if you answer YES to most of these:- Does your business lack a dedicated on-site IT administrator?
- Do you have employees who work remotely or across multiple locations?
- Are you comfortable with your call data residing at a reputable cloud data center?
- Do you prefer predictable monthly operational costs over upfront capital expenditure?
- Do you want the fastest possible deployment timeline?
- Does your industry require data to remain physically on your premises?
- Do you have existing PRI or ISDN lines you want to retain?
- Do you have an IT team capable of managing and monitoring a local server?
- Do you have an existing server infrastructure you want to leverage?
- Is a one-time hardware investment preferable to ongoing monthly fees?
Many businesses in Cambodia choose a hybrid approach — running the primary 3CX server on a cloud VPS for resilience and remote access, while maintaining a local SIP gateway to connect legacy analog or PRI lines. KHCOLO can design and implement hybrid architectures tailored to your specific requirements.
